About

Expedition Ahimsa is the dreamchild of Prema & Manjari–partners in every sense of the word. They live and work in Washington DC.

Prema [pray-ma] is a curator, historian, and yoga teacher. He was born in New Delhi and lived in India and the UAE until he was 18, when he moved to the United States where he went on to earn a PhD in History from the University of Virginia. When he is not reading, writing, or meditating, he enjoys board games, star gazing, and travel photography.

Ananda Manjari [mon-ja-ree] is a visual artist and a yogi, who is currently working on her MFA at the University of Maryland. She grew up in Poland, moved to New York City when she was 16, and works as a crisis counselor. Manjari is always training for her next marathon and she is to be credited for the name Expedition Ahimsa.

We had been coordinating international retreats with partner yoga studios and other groups since 2022, only to realize we could do this on our own, and BETTER, with more enrichment, greater cultural sensitivity, less hassle, at a much more affordable price, and with a lot of heart.

We are passionate about ethical and low-impact plant-based travel. International adventures take a toll on the planet and we believe offsetting the carbon footprint of our expeditions is our responsibility. That is why all our trips are plant-based and emphasize slow, low-carbon modes of transportation. Too much tourism is about consumption. We strive to refocus our travel on building relationships, deep cultural immersion and appreciation, and giving back to the communities, people, and places we visit.

Hope you’ll join us on our travels around the world.
